Bamouns is one of rare peoples of sub-Saharan Africa to have developed a writing. This writing was invented by king Njoya at the beginning of the 20th century. Bamouns also thinks who the women return the fertile soil, that is why the women are generally in charge of the works of fields. Masks and statuettes are important in the practice of these cults.
