Punu (also called Bapunu, plural of Mupunu) form an ethnos group mainly distributed in the south of Gabon. Punu migrated towards the south of Gabon (in the basin of Ngounié) at the 18th century. They live in independent villages divided into clans and families. Social cohesion is ensured by the Moukouji company, whose crucial role is to subjugate the evil spirits of the forest. Their language is the yipunu. One finds people speaking the yipunu in the provinces about Ngounié and Nyanga mainly. The great concentrations are the cities of Wet, Ndendé (Ngounié); Tchibanga and Moabi (Nyanga). Today, he is necessary to add to it the cities like Lambaréné (Means-Ogooué) and even the capital of the Libreville country. In many speakers, the yipunu is classified in second position, after the Fang language.
